Mr. Roy Vermillion, Head of School

Mr. Vermillion has over 30 years of experience in education, teaching multiple subjects in grades one through eight. Additionally, he has served in administrative roles in South Carolina and Florida. Previously, he served as Head of School for a preschool through fifth grade school and prior to this as a Head of Lower School.
Mrs. Susan Ruble, Assistant Head of School | Admissions

During Mrs. Ruble's 14 year history with Sullins, she has taught junior kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and second grade. Prior to a career in the field of education, she was employed as a social worker for approximately ten years. Sullins Academy became near and dear to Mrs. Ruble’s heart during her daughter’s attendance in the fifth through eighth grade. She and her husband, Tim, credit Sullins with the development of confidence, time management, and study skills that have served their daughter well into her college career. Mrs. Ruble is passionate about early childhood development and the study of phonics and syllabication.
Mrs. Twana Meade, Assoc. Head of Business Affairs
A.S. Virginia Highlands Community College
Mrs. Meade has 38 years of accounting experience with 30 of those at Sullins Academy. She enjoys reading, puzzles, the beach, the lake, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Angie Schumaker, Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Schumaker has been at Sullins Academy for 26 years. She is married to John, and they have two daughters who both attended Sullins. Alexandria has her RNBSN and is now attending the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at King University. Madison is attending VHCC studying Health Sciences/Radiology. Mrs. Schumaker enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her three grandsons, shopping, reading, summer, and the beach.

Mrs. Mary Walling, Marketing & Communications | Kindergarten
B.S. East Tennessee State University
Mrs. Walling, a Sullins alumna, began her teaching career at Sullins Academy in 2015. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Austin, and they have a son and future Sullins Eagle named Mark. Mrs. Walling enjoys walking her dog, watching movies, shopping, and Hokie football.

Mr. Max Lawson '00, Director of Technology

Mr. Lawson has 14 years of experience consulting for technology needs for large organizations and hospitals. Mr. Lawson is married with three children - Kate, 8th grade, Molly, 3rdd grade, and Louise, kindergarten.
"I assist with technology in education, because I think it’s a fundamental skill that everyone will need in the future. My goal is to make sure that technology at Sullins is a useful tool to help in building the best educational experience in the region."
