Sullins Academy hosts First Responders’ Spaghetti Luncheon

September 12, 2016

Sullins Academy students, faculty, and staff honored the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy by providing a spaghetti lunch for area First Responders.  Students in all grades participated in the event.

The school invited Bristol VA and Washington County VA fire department, sheriff’s department, police and EMS to join students for the lunch.  The cafeteria was decorated by the Preschool students, while students in first through fifth grades took part in making the spaghetti sauce and garlic bread.  Middle school students made homemade desserts.  As first responders arrived they were greeted by high fives and handwritten notes from students.  Each student had a part in honoring our local heros.

Students had the opportunity to spend their lunch with a First Responder, asking questions and getting to know more about their responsibility in the community.  After lunch, our younger students were treated to a “tour” of the fire trucks which was enjoyed by all!

Service, both in our school and in the community, is a key component to instilling a giving heart in Sullins Academy students.
