Sullins Performing Opening Tribute to Loretta Lynn

August 26, 2016

Sullins Academy is excited to announce a very special opportunity for our students.  At the 16th Annual Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival, students will have the honor of performing an Opening Tribute for a legend, Loretta Lynn.

Loretta Lynn is a multiple gold album American country music singer-songwriter whose work spans almost 60 years. She has received numerous awards and other accolades for her groundbreaking role in country music, including awards from both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music as a duet partner and individual artist. She remains the most awarded female country recording artist, including her being the only female ACM Artist of the Decade (1970s).  She is currently on tour promoting her newest album, Full Circle.

Our students will be spending the first few weeks of school learning about Loretta Lynn’s career and music while practicing a medley that will include songs like “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”, “You Ain’t Woman Enough”, and “Who’s Gonna Miss Me”

This is a huge honor for our school and students, and we cannot express how excited we are to be able to partner with the Birthplace of Country Music in this way.  Students will be performing the medley twice on Saturday, September 17.  The first performance will be during Children’s Day at 11:30 am and the evening performance will be the Opening Tribute on the State Street Stage at 7:55 p.m.

Support from our families, faculty, and friends allows us to continuing bringing special activities and experiences like this one to our school and students.  We thank each of you and hope you will be able to come down to the Rhythm and Roots Festival watch the students perform!
